Carruanthus ringens (L.) Boom
Gaping Ice Plant
The best-known species of the genus Carruanthus, originally described by Linnaeus as Mesembryanthemum ringens. The epithet "ringens" (gaping or open-mouthed) alludes to the shape of the flowers, which open wide like a mouth. It is the most commonly cultivated species of the genus and forms dense mats with spectacular yellow flowering.
