Caralluma nebrownii A.Berger

N.E. Brown's Caralluma

Succulent described by Alwin Berger and dedicated to Nicholas Edward Brown, the reference taxonomist for the genus Caralluma at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Native to Namibia, it is known for the variety var. pseudonebrownii, which differs in minor floral details. In modern taxonomy, Bruyns considers it a synonym of Orbea lutea subsp. vaga (N.E.Br.) Bruyns, although historically it was treated as an independent species and is so listed in most historical botanical collections. The 1909 Curtis's Botanical Magazine illustration (tab. 8267) by Matilda Smith is the most widely reproduced depiction of this taxon.

"Alwin Berger dedicated this species to N.E. Brown in recognition of his monographic work on African Asclepiadaceae. The var. pseudonebrownii is distinguished by slight variations in the length of the corona lobes. Synonymisation under Orbea lutea subsp. vaga by Bruyns (2000) is currently the most widely followed taxonomic option."
