Caralluma meintjesiana Lavranos
Meintjes' Caralluma
Succulent described by South African botanist John Jacob Lavranos, a specialist in African and Arabian succulents. The species is named in honour of the person who assisted in its collection or study. Endemic to South Africa, it grows in stony soils and dry scrub habitats. Like all South African Caralluma, it produces five-lobed flowers with typically brownish-purple colouration and emits a fetid odour during anthesis to attract pollinating insects, mainly flies.
