Caralluma maroccana (Hook.f.) N.E.Br.
Moroccan Caralluma
Succulent endemic to the arid zones of southern and southwestern Morocco, originally described by Joseph Dalton Hooker (f.) and transferred to Caralluma by N.E. Brown. In the literature it is also cited under the synonym Boucerosia maroccana. It is one of the few Caralluma with an exclusive distribution in North Africa outside the Canary Islands and European Mediterranean. It grows in stony and pebbly hammada and reg soils, associated with very sparse desert vegetation.

"The combination Caralluma maroccana was made by N.E. Brown based on the basionym of Hooker fil. The species represents the northwesternmost distribution limit of the genus and its relationship with C. europaea from the Mediterranean is the subject of phylogenetic study."
