Tree-like succulent shrub characteristic of the Canary Islands. Develops thick, fleshy trunks with prominent leaf scars. Grey-green, lanceolate, fleshy leaves are grouped at branch tips.

"'Cacalia kleinia' L. is the historical name (1753). The currently accepted name is 'Kleinia neriifolia' Haw. (1812). Popularly known as 'verode' in the Canary Islands, where it is a protected endemic species and key component of the tabaibal-cardonal scrubland."
