Cacalia ficoides L.
Blue Chalk Fingers
Cacalia ficoides L. is the historical basionym of Curio ficoides, a trailing or mat-forming succulent from the South African Western Cape. Described by Linnaeus in 1753, it is the first valid publication of this species' name. Its leaves are cylindrical, turgid, and a characteristic glaucous silvery-blue, earning it the popular name 'blue chalk fingers'. It is one of the most versatile and resilient mat-forming succulents for Mediterranean and xeric gardens.

"The name Cacalia ficoides L. (1753) is the basionym: the first validly published name for this species. It is the nomenclatural basis for all later combinations. The modern accepted name is Curio ficoides (L.) P.V.Heath (1999). Complete synonymy includes: Kleinia ficoides (L.) Haw. (1812), Senecio ficoides (L.) Sch.Bip. (1845), and Cacalia dulcis Salisb. (1796, heterotypic synonym). The species was transferred to genus Curio by Paul V. Heath in 1999 when segregating cylindrical-leaved succulents from Senecio."
