Cacalia cuneifolia L. is a historical Linnaean name of very uncertain taxonomic identity. According to research published in 2021 in Bradleya (Journal of the British Cactus and Succulent Society), the type specimen is a unique sterile fragment whose definitive identity could not be established with certainty. Some authors have treated it as a synonym of Senecio kleiniiformis, but more recent studies suggest it may belong to Othonna arborescens. The taxon lacks reliable historical photographic documentation.

"The name Cacalia cuneifolia L. (1753) is of deeply uncertain taxonomic identity. A 2021 study (Bradleya 39) concludes that the type specimen may be Linnaeus' missing original material, but does not allow a secure generic assignment. Some authors have synonymized it with Senecio kleiniiformis Suess. or with Othonna arborescens L. This taxon must NOT be confused with Kleinia cuneifolia (a different species).
