Caralluma edulis (Edgew.) Benth. ex Hook.f.

Edible Caralluma

One of the few truly edible Caralluma, widely consumed in northwest India and Pakistan as a survival vegetable during famines. Its tender young stems are eaten cooked, pickled or raw. Currently also classified as Boucerosia edulis or Caudanthera edulis depending on the adopted taxonomic revision. Flowers are yellowish-green to brown with hairy papillae.
