Western Mediterranean stem succulent, subspecies of Caralluma commutata described by Maire. The epithet 'hesperidum' evokes the 'Hesperides', the classical name for the western Mediterranean. It inhabits coastal scrubland and rocky steppes of Morocco and Algeria, frequently on sunny expositions with calcareous or volcanic substrate.
