Stem succulent described by K. Schumann, native to the arid and semi-arid regions of East Africa. The epithet 'codonoides' refers to the bell-like shape of the floral corona, a distinctive feature of the taxon within the genus. It inhabits stony scrubland and dry savannas of Tanzania and Kenya.
