Caralluma burchardii N.E.Br.

Burchard's Caralluma

Stem succulent endemic to the eastern Canary Islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura) and the Atlantic coast of Morocco, described by N.E. Brown. Popularly known as 'cardón de cochino', it is one of the few native asclepiads of Macaronesia. Several recognised forms exist: f. grandiflora (larger flowers), subs. maura (Moroccan population), var. purpurascens (darker stems) and var. sventenii (differentiated Canarian taxon).
