Boucerosia penicillata Deflers
Brush-tipped Caralluma
A succulent originally described by botanist-explorer Albert Deflers from material collected in Yemen, currently recognised as Caralluma penicillata. The plant inhabits rocky arid areas of Southern Arabia (Yemen). Its stems are erect, tetragonal, greyish-green, and the flowers bear petals with terminal cilia or hairs resembling a brush tip, the feature that gives the species its name (penicillata = brush-shaped). It is one of the least documented carallumas in cultivation outside its region of origin.

"Albert Deflers (1841–1921) collected this plant during his exploration of Yemen in 1887–1889. It is one of the few Boucerosia described from original field material from Southern Arabia. Its relationship with other Caralluma from the region (such as C. arabica and C. retrospiciens) warrants modern phylogenetic revision."
