Argyroderma productum L.Bolus

Elongated silver stone

Argyroderma productum is a mesemb of the family Aizoaceae distributed in the Little Karoo, near Oudtshoorn, making it unusual within the genus, most of whose species are found in Namaqualand. The epithet 'productum' (elongated in Latin) refers to the more elongated body shape compared to other species. It inhabits quartzitic and calcareous stony soils typical of the Little Karoo.

science

"The presence of A. productum in the Little Karoo, geographically separated from the Namaqualand core, raises questions about the biogeography of the genus and possible dispersal or vicariance routes along the Cape quartz corridor."
