Argyroderma ovale L.Bolus
Oval silver stone
Argyroderma ovale is a mesemb endemic to the quartz fields of Namaqualand. Its name refers to the oval or ellipsoid shape of the body formed by its two fused succulent leaves, which is slightly more elongated than in other species in the genus. This morphological trait distinguishes it from more spherical-bodied congeners such as A. delaetii or A. testiculare.

"The oval body shape of A. ovale is considered an adaptation to more elongated pebbles in its native habitat, reinforcing the hypothesis that lithophytic mimicry in Argyroderma closely follows the morphology of local pebbles."
