Argyroderma lesliei N.E.Br.

Leslie's Argyroderma

Argyroderma lesliei N.E.Br. is a mesemb endemic to the Little Karoo and the Calitzdorp region of South Africa, named in honor of plant collector David D. Leslie. Unlike most Argyroderma that produce magenta or pink flowers, A. lesliei produces pure white flowers, a key diagnostic characteristic. It grows in white quartz fields where its silvery body and white flowers mimic the substrate even more perfectly.

"The white flowers of A. lesliei are unique within the genus Argyroderma; practically all other species have flowers in the pink–magenta–yellow spectrum. N.E.Brown dedicated it to collector D.D. Leslie, who contributed significantly to botanical knowledge of the South African Little Karoo in the late 19th century."
