Argyroderma digitifolium (N.E.Br.) Schwantes ex L.Bolus

Finger-leaved Argyroderma

Argyroderma digitifolium (N.E.Br.) Schwantes ex L.Bolus is one of the morphologically most singular species in the genus. Its name 'digitifolium' (finger-leaved) describes the elongated and more individualized form of its succulent leaves, which have a more cylindrical or digitiform appearance compared to the fully globose, fused body of other Argyroderma. Endemic to Namaqualand, it grows in white quartz fields.

"A. digitifolium represents a morphological intermediate between fully fused globose-bodied Argyroderma and other mesembs with more independent leaves. Its taxonomic position has been revised several times; Schwantes originally described it under Mesembryanthemum digitifolium and it was transferred to Argyroderma by L.Bolus."
