Argyroderma concinnum Schwantes

Neat Argyroderma

Argyroderma concinnum Schwantes is one of the most popular species of the genus in cultivation, appreciated for the compact and well-defined elegance of its globose body. Its name 'concinnum' (neat, elegant, well-proportioned) reflects the harmonious proportion of its fused leaves. Endemic to the South African Namaqualand and Richtersveld, it grows in white quartz fields where mimicry with pebbles is nearly perfect.

Success Rate 55–70%
  1. 1 Sow on surface of very fine quartzitic sand without covering seeds
  2. 2 Keep moist with mister; cover with transparent film
  3. 3 Temperature 15–20 °C; diffuse light in first weeks
  4. 4 Ventilate briefly each day; transplant at 12 months
Clump division Medium
Season: Autumn Rooting: 2–4 weeks
Success Rate 60–70%
  1. 1 Only in autumn at start of active growth

format_quote
science

"A. concinnum is frequently the first Argyroderma acquired by novice collectors, thanks to its availability in specialized nurseries and its perfectly globose form. Schwantes described it as the most 'neat' and symmetrical example in the genus, which explains the epithet 'concinnum'."
