Angolluma subterranea (E.A.Bruce & P.R.O.Bally) Plowes
Underground angolluma
One of the most extraordinary adaptations of the genus: most of the stem grows underground and only the flower stalks emerge to the surface. This strategy reduces water loss through transpiration in its extremely arid habitat in the interior of Kenya and Tanzania.

"Exceptional species for its extreme geophytic habit. Described by Bruce and Bally. In cultivation requires a tall pot to accommodate the underground stems; very difficult outside specialised collections. Synonym: Caralluma subterranea E.A.Bruce & P.R.O.Bally."
