Anacampseros subnuda Poelln.
Nearly naked anacampseros
Anacampseros subnuda is a dwarf succulent from the Northern Cape of South Africa, whose epithet 'subnuda' refers to the reduction or near-absence of papery axillary scales, an unusual trait within the genus where such scales are normally prominent. Its small rosettes with ovate greenish leaves grow in arid sandy soils. Ephemeral pink flowers appear on sunny afternoons.

"The reduction of axillary scales in subnuda suggests possible evolutionary pressures distinct from other species in the genus, perhaps associated with microhabitats with lower nocturnal temperature fluctuation."
