Anacampseros rubroviridis Poelln.

Red-green anacampseros

Anacampseros rubroviridis is a dwarf succulent native to Namaqualand, an arid region in northwestern South Africa. Its name evokes the notable bicolor coloration of its leaves: deep green tones with reddish blushes that intensify under full sun or drought stress. Like all anacampseroids, it produces ephemeral pink flowers that open briefly on warm sunny afternoons. It grows in rocky crevices and gravelly soils with extreme drainage.

science

"The characteristic red-green coloration is an adaptive response to light stress and the extreme aridity of Namaqualand, and can be used as a visual indicator of the plant's water status."
