Anacampseros neglecta Poelln.

Neglected anacampseros

Anacampseros neglecta was described by Poellnitz, and its evocative name ('the neglected one') reflects the species' taxonomic history: it was overlooked for decades before receiving its formal description. It is native to the Northern Cape and Namaqualand of South Africa, where it grows in the typical sandy and stony soils of this arid region. Like all Anacampseros, it is a dwarf succulent with ephemeral pink flowers and silky axillary hairs.

"The name 'neglecta' is a reminder that the taxonomic biodiversity of the arid regions of the Northern Cape remains partially explored. Several Namaqualand Anacampseros species were described late by Poellnitz in the 1930s–1940s, having been collected decades earlier without formal description."
