Papery anacampseros

Anacampseros papyracea (also known as Avonia papyracea) is an iconic succulent of the Richtersveld and Namaqualand, completely covered by overlapping white-silver papery stipular scales like roof slates. In South Africa it is colloquially called 'goose turds' for the appearance of the segments. Its ephemeral flowers are white to pale pink.

format_quote
science

"A. papyracea grows in environments where nightly condensation provides most of the available water. In cultivation it responds well to light nocturnal waterings that mimic dew. The classification between Anacampseros and Avonia remains debated in recent literature."
