Aloinopsis albinotus (Haw.) Schwantes

White-marked aloinopsis

Small geophytic succulent endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, belonging to tribe Ruschieae. Forms compact rosettes of short, grey or blue-green leaves densely covered in small white markings (tubercles or papillae). As a typical geophyte, it has a swollen taproot that stores water and nutrients during the dry summer season. Its diurnal flowers, bright yellow, only open in direct sunlight. A winter-growing species, entering complete dormancy in summer.

science

"Like all Aloinopsis, A. albinotus follows a winter-growing cycle opposite to most South African succulents; flowering occurs in the austral winter (June–August) and it is essential to avoid summer watering which kills the plant."
