Aloinopsis orpenii (N.E.Br.) L.Bolus

Orpen's Aloinopsis

Geophytic succulent endemic to the Fraserburg district of the Great Karoo, South Africa. Forms low, compact rosettes with glaucous or grey-green leaves that are thick and studded with white tubercles. The fleshy taproot stores large reserves of water and nutrients, enabling survival through extreme summer drought. Blooms in late austral winter, producing yellow flowers with a coppery-pink central stripe.
