Calibanus caespitosus (Scheidw.) Rose

Tufted calibanus

Calibanus caespitosus is one of the rarest species in the genus Calibanus, endemic to Mexico. It forms a subterranean or semi-buried caudex from which dense tufts of rigid, linear grass-like leaves emerge. Unlike C. hookeri, its caudex tends to be more elongated and less globose, with a more caespitose (tufted) base. It is a highly sought-after collector plant and uncommon in cultivation.
