Brunsvigia bosmaniae F.M.Leight.

Bosman's Brunsvigia

Perennial bulbous geophyte with spectacular pink flowering, native to the Namaqualand and Karoo region of South Africa. Forms bulbs up to 15 cm diameter and produces umbels of 30–60 deep pink to crimson tubular flowers in summer, before the foliage emerges. Its seed dispersal strategy is unique: the mature floral scape detaches from the base and rolls driven by wind, sowing as it goes (tumbleweed phenomenon). Spectacular mass flowering associated with seasonal rains in Nieuwoudtville.
