Beaucarnea parviflora (Kunth) Baker

Small-flowered beaucarnea

Beaucarnea parviflora (Kunth) Baker is a species from the Mexican states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. Its specific epithet parviflora refers to its especially small-sized flowers compared to other species in the genus. Originally described in the genus Nolina (Nolina parviflora), it was moved to Beaucarnea after phylogenetic revisions. It is a robust caudiciform with the characteristic swollen trunk of the genus, adapted to warm and dry climates.

"B. parviflora was originally described by Carl Sigismund Kunth and transferred to Beaucarnea by Baker. The synonym Nolina parviflora is still used by some authors. Its distribution in Guerrero and Oaxaca geographically differentiates it from other genus species concentrated in the northeast."
