Beaucarnea longifolia (Karw. ex Schult. & Schult.f.) Baker

Long-leaved beaucarnea

Beaucarnea longifolia (Karw. ex Schult. & Schult.f.) Baker is a species distributed in the Mexican states of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz. As its epithet suggests, it is characterized by its particularly long leaves that can exceed 150 cm. Also known under its synonym Nolina longifolia, it is a robust caudiciform very well adapted to warm and dry climates. Its growth habit creates very striking specimens in Mediterranean and subtropical climate gardens.

science

"B. longifolia was originally described as Nolina longifolia. The synonymy with the genus Beaucarnea was consolidated following phylogenetic revisions of the Nolinoideae complex. Its leaves are the longest in the genus, a characteristic that makes it very striking in botanical collections."
