"Basionym: Bombax occidentale Spreng. Transferred by Burkill. In modern classification (Plants of the World Online) this species may appear in synonymy with C. pentandra or C. guineensis. Verify current status in POWO. The epithet "occidentalis" geographically places it in the western continent of Africa."
