Commiphora habessinica var. grossedentata Chiov.

Coarsely-toothed Abyssinian myrrh

Variety of Commiphora habessinica (the Abyssinian myrrh) characterised by its leaves with especially large, coarse marginal teeth ('grossedentata' = coarsely toothed). Native to the arid lands of Ethiopia, ancient Abyssinia. The typical species C. habessinica is already a notable source of aromatic resin; this variety shares the same resinous properties with more coarsely toothed leaves.

science

"The variety grossedentata was described by Chiovenda from Ethiopian material. Its infraspecific taxonomic position has not been reviewed with modern molecular phylogenies; it could merit independent species status if foliar variation correlates with genetic differences."
